The law firm, located in Washington, DC, is currently seeking a Junior to Mid-level Associate Attorney with a focus on patent preparation and prosecution. The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of relevant experience in electrical engineering or computer science, coupled with a strong academic background, law firm exposure, and excellent communication skills. The role involves working on patent prosecution cases related to electrical engineering, software-related technologies, data science/AI, networking technologies (especially network security), and machine learning/artificial intelligence with a hardware security emphasis.

 

Duties:

  • Conducting patent preparation and prosecution activities in accordance with legal standards and regulations.
  • Collaborating with clients and inventors to understand the technical aspects of inventions.
  • Analyzing and interpreting patent laws, rulings, and regulations for clients.
  • Drafting and preparing legal documents, including patent applications, responses to office actions, and legal memoranda.
  • Conducting legal research to support patent prosecution activities.

 

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant patent preparation and prosecution experience.
  • A degree in electrical engineering or computer science.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

 

Skills:

  • Strong academic achievement.
  • The solid law firm, engineering, and industry experience.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Preferred experience in patent prosecution in electrical engineering or software-related technologies.
  • Preferred experience in data science/AI, networking technologies (especially network security), and machine learning/artificial intelligence with a hardware security emphasis.
