A law firm in Washington, DC is seeking a Patent Development and Strategy Attorney to join their team. The ideal candidate will effectively communicate with clients, lawyers, business professionals, and third parties, producing high-quality work products in a timely manner. Responsibilities include patent prosecution, client counseling, drafting patent applications, providing freedom-to-operate opinions, and conducting due diligence. The candidate should possess transferable skills, strong academic backgrounds from nationally recognized schools, and prior experience in a large or mid-sized law firm. A degree in chemical engineering or chemistry, state licensure, admission to the USPTO, and a J.D. are required.

 

Duties:

  • Communicate effectively with clients, lawyers, and third parties verbally and in writing
  • Produce high-quality work products in a timely and efficient manner
  • Meet deadlines and expectations while complying with firm policies
  • Engage in both physical and sedentary activities, including computer work and virtual meetings
  • Perform patent prosecution, client counseling, and drafting patent applications
  • Provide freedom-to-operate opinions and conduct due diligence as needed
  • Foster positive work relationships and collaborate with colleagues
  • Perform other duties or projects as assigned

 

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of experience in patent prosecution
  • Transferable skills and strong academic background from nationally recognized schools
  • Prior experience in a large or mid-sized law firm is preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or chemistry
  • State licensure to practice law
  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree
