A law firm based in Washington, DC is seeking a Consumer Finance Special Counsel. The candidate will primarily engage in regulatory counseling and drafting, focusing on federal and state consumer lending laws. This role requires extensive experience in consumer finance, including advising both bank and non-bank financial institutions, drafting contracts, and ensuring compliance with licensing requirements. Expertise in the Fair Credit Reporting Act is highly desired.

 

Duties:

  • Provide regulatory counseling and drafting services primarily related to federal and state consumer lending laws.
  • Advise on compliance with regulations such as the Truth in Lending Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and Equal Credit Opportunity Act.
  • Draft contracts and lending documents for consumer and commercial purposes.
  • Interpret licensing requirements and ensure compliance for financial institutions.
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes and provide guidance to clients accordingly.
  • Conduct comprehensive research on consumer finance laws and regulations.

 

Requirements:

  • JD from an ABA-approved law school.
  • Active member of the Bar in good standing.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant regulatory experience.
  • Solid background in consumer finance, particularly in compliance counseling.
  • Proficiency in negotiating and drafting contracts.
  • Familiarity with state and federal regulatory interpretation.
  • Preferred experience with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

 

Education and Certifications:

  • JD from an ABA-approved law school.
  • Active Bar membership in the jurisdiction.

  • In-depth understanding of federal and state consumer lending laws.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Analytical mindset with meticulous attention to detail.
