Job Overview

A well-established civil defense law firm is seeking an experienced Associate Attorney to join its growing litigation team in Charleston, SC. This position is ideal for a motivated attorney with a passion for courtroom advocacy and a desire to gain hands-on litigation experience. The role includes cross-training in workers’ compensation and the opportunity to manage cases independently, work with national clients, and grow within a supportive and collaborative legal environment.

Location

  • Charleston, South Carolina

Duties

  • Manage a caseload of civil litigation matters with a focus on defense work

  • Handle depositions, mediations, motion practice, and trial preparation

  • Draft legal documents including pleadings, motions, and discovery responses

  • Appear in court to argue motions and represent clients at hearings and trials

  • Collaborate with senior attorneys and partners on strategy and case development

  • Communicate with clients and opposing counsel to negotiate settlements or prepare for trial

  • Receive cross-training in workers’ compensation law and assist with related matters as needed

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of civil litigation experience

  • Willingness to be cross-trained in workers’ compensation defense

  • Ability to manage multiple cases in a fast-paced litigation practice

  • Strong work ethic and desire to gain real courtroom experience

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications

  • Licensed to practice law in South Carolina

  • Member in good standing with the South Carolina Bar

Skills

  • Strong oral advocacy and litigation skills

  • Excellent legal writing and analytical abilities

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
