Job Overview

A law firm seeks an associate attorney to join its transportation practice group in South Carolina. The ideal candidate will have two to six years of insurance defense experience, strong writing skills, and the ability to work independently on complex litigation. Statewide case venues and occasional fieldwork for accident response are required.

Duties

  • Manage a litigation caseload from start to finish, including evidence gathering and witness interviews.
  • Draft and file legal documents such as complaints, motions, and appeals.
  • Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, and appellate briefs.
  • Conduct depositions and manage discovery requests and information exchange.
  • Represent clients in court hearings and prepare and argue motions.
  • Develop trial strategies and prepare witnesses for court.
  • Advise clients on legal options and case strategies.
  • Negotiate settlements and represent clients in appeals if necessary.
  • Collaborate with paralegals and support staff to manage case files and deadlines.
  • Communicate with clients and provide timely case status updates.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the State Bar of South Carolina and in good standing.
  • Prefer 2-6 years of experience; transportation experience is a plus.
  • Ability to evaluate complex legal issues and develop sound arguments.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail for accuracy in legal documents.
  • Ability to conduct thorough legal research and apply case law.
  • Creatively identify legal strategies for complex issues.
  • Ability to build rapport with clients, witnesses, and opposing counsel.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admission to the State Bar of South Carolina.
