Job Title: Patent Agent

Job Overview: A law firm in Washington, DC is seeking a Patent Agent to join their team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for drafting and prosecuting patent applications, collaborating with inventors on new AI technologies, conducting prior art searches, and staying up-to-date with AI technology and patent laws.

Job Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications related to AI technologies.
  • Collaborate with inventors to understand new AI technologies and assess their patentability.
  • Conduct and analyze results of prior art searches and freedom-to-operate analyses.
  • Maintain knowledge of the latest AI technology and patent laws.
  • Liaise with clients to develop and manage patent portfolios.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or graduate degree (MS/PhD) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, Physics, or a related technical field involving AI/ML.
  • Experience with AI models, neural networks, and deep learning.
  • Experience with AI/ML theory including backpropagation, regularization, optimization, preprocessing data, selecting features, training/tuning models, and deploying models to production environments.
  • Domain experience in autonomous vehicles, robotics, natural language processing, wireless communications, computer vision, or related AI fields preferred.
  • Registered to practice with the USPTO.
  • Active member and in good standing of DC Bar or eligible to waive into the appropriate Bar.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of AI technologies and their application in patent law.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to conduct thorough prior art searches.
  • Attention to detail in drafting patent applications.
  • Proficiency in analyzing patent landscapes and freedom-to-operate analyses.

Education/Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or graduate degree (MS/PhD) in relevant technical fields.
  • Registration to practice with the USPTO.
  • Active membership or eligibility for DC Bar admission.
