A law firm in Washington, DC is seeking a Patent Agent with a background in aerospace engineering and engine technology. The ideal candidate should be a registered patent agent with examining experience at the U.S. PTO or patent drafting experience in a law firm setting. Holding undergraduate and/or graduate degrees in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, or computer science is required. Strong preference will be given to candidates with previous experience as a patent examiner, and industry experience is considered a plus. The successful candidate must have excellent academic credentials, strong writing skills, and sharp analytical ability.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with inventors and attorneys to draft and prosecute patent applications.
  • Conduct patentability searches and prepare opinions.
  • Assist in managing patent portfolios and advising on intellectual property strategy.
  • Engage in correspondence with the U.S. PTO and foreign patent offices.
  • Provide technical expertise in aerospace engineering and engine technology.
  • Stay current on changes in patent laws and regulations.
  • Support patent litigation efforts with technical analysis.

 

Requirements:

  • Background in aerospace engineering and engine technology.
  • Registered patent agent with examining experience at the U.S. PTO or patent drafting experience in a law firm setting.
  • Undergraduate and/or graduate degrees in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, or computer science.

 

Education:

Bachelors or advanced degree in relevant engineering or computer science field.

 

Certifications:

Registered patent agent.

 

Skills:

  • Strong technical expertise in aerospace engineering and engine technology.
  • Excellent academic credentials.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Sharp analytical ability.
  • Previous experience as a patent examiner (strongly preferred).
  • Industry experience (a plus).
