Job Overview

A law firm seeks an Employment Counsel in New York City, NY. This role is integral to the firm's Legal Team, leading employee relations and compliance functions. The position involves collaboration with senior leadership, the General Counsel's office, and HR to address complex employee relations issues and ensure compliance with global employment laws.

Duties

  • Advise HR and management on labor and employment law and global HR policies.
  • Draft and review employment-related policies and assess non-compliance risks.
  • Collaborate with business groups to resolve employee issues and grievances.
  • Partner with the General Counsel's office and outside counsel on employment solutions.
  • Develop and deliver training on legislative developments and best practices.
  • Lead immigration issue resolution with outside counsel.
  • Conduct annual reviews of the Employee Handbook and recommend policy changes.
  • Support benefits and compensation compliance and workplace strategy.

Requirements

  • JD required (NY Bar membership or ability to waive in).
  • Expertise in U.S. employment laws, including FMLA, ADA, and wage & hour.
  • Experience in human resource management and employee relations.
  • Proven track record in handling internal investigations of employment complaints.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Professionalism and diplomacy in organizational interactions.
  • Proactive in addressing business needs and improving processes.
  • Adaptability to a dynamic work environment.
  • Experience in management training and organizational change leadership.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and professional conduct.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD)

Certifications

  • New York Bar membership or eligibility to waive in
