Job Overview: A law firm is seeking an experienced Appellate Attorney to join their team in Chicago, IL. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in handling appellate matters and assisting trial counsel in preserving appeal issues. Prior experience in practice areas such as professional liability, employment law, medical malpractice, commercial transportation, and general casualty defense is highly desirable. The candidate must possess an Illinois license, with additional licenses in Indiana and/or Wisconsin considered advantageous.

Duties:

  • Represent clients in appellate proceedings before state and federal courts.
  • Draft appellate briefs, motions, and other legal documents.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to support appellate arguments.
  • Collaborate with trial counsel to identify and preserve appeal issues during trial proceedings.
  • Present oral arguments before appellate courts.
  • Provide legal advice and guidance to clients regarding appellate matters.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Illinois State Bar.
  • Additional admission to the Indiana and/or Wisconsin State Bars is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience practicing law, focusing on appellate matters.
  • Strong understanding of appellate procedures and rules of evidence.
  • Excellent legal writing and oral advocacy skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Illinois State Bar.
  • Additional admission to the Indiana and/or Wisconsin State Bars is preferred.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in legal research tools and databases.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
  • Ability to effectively advocate on behalf of clients.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal software applications.
