Job Overview:
A well-established law firm is seeking a skilled Associate Attorney to join its Energy & Natural Resources practice group in Houston, with a specific focus on commodities. This position is ideal for a mid-to-senior-level attorney experienced in transactional work involving natural gas and electricity, including power purchase agreements and ISDA documentation. The role also requires familiarity with secured transactions, particularly those involving security interests in personal property. The successful candidate will work on complex transactional matters within a collaborative and dynamic legal team.

Location:

  • Houston, Texas

Duties:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate power purchase agreements and ISDA contracts

  • Provide counsel on natural gas and electricity transactions

  • Advise on secured transactions involving security interests in personal property

  • Prepare and review security agreements, intercreditor agreements, and joinder agreements

  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams on complex energy-related deals

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and commercial requirements

Requirements:

  • 4 to 6 years of relevant legal experience in energy and commodities transactions

  • Proficiency with power purchase agreements and ISDA documentation

  • Experience handling secured transactions, including security and intercreditor agreements

  • Strong understanding of energy markets and commercial transaction structures

  • Ability to manage multiple transactions simultaneously with attention to detail

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to the bar in Texas, or eligibility to obtain admission

Skills:

  • Expertise in transactional energy law

  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills

  • Familiarity with commodity and derivatives market practices

  • Solid understanding of secured lending and finance structures

  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities
