Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm is seeking an experienced Class Action Counsel, Brief Writer to join their team. The position involves drafting substantive motions and briefs in wage and hour class actions, collective actions, and other representative matters. This is a full-time, remote role ideal for an attorney with a passion for complex litigation and an interest in a reduced billable hour requirement. The role offers the opportunity to work independently on legal briefs, including motions to dismiss, motions for summary judgment, and mediation briefs. The successful candidate will have a strong background in class actions, PAGA litigation, and other relevant legal areas.

Location:

  • New York City, NY

Duties:

  • Drafting substantive motions and briefs for class action, collective action, and PAGA matters, including:
    • Motions to dismiss
    • Demurrers
    • Motions to compel arbitration
    • Mediation briefs
    • Oppositions to class certifications
    • Motions for summary judgment
  • Collaborating with trial teams to formulate briefing strategies
  • Analyzing case facts, evaluating legal authorities, and crafting persuasive arguments
  • Drafting mediation statements and briefs as needed
  • Reviewing evidence relevant to briefings
  • Managing multiple complex legal matters efficiently

Requirements:

  • Minimum 6 years of legal experience in wage and hour and class actions
  • Extensive experience drafting various types of motions and briefs, particularly in class action and PAGA litigation
  • Strong ability to create well-founded legal arguments and strategies
  • Ability to handle multiple complex matters simultaneously
  • Active bar license in California and the state of residence

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active bar membership in California and the state of residence

Skills:

  • Expertise in wage and hour laws, class actions, and PAGA litigation
  • Exceptional writing and legal research skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex legal matters
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and remotely
