Job Overview:
A respected full-service civil defense firm located in downtown Chicago is seeking a motivated Associate Attorney with 0–4 years of experience. This position offers the opportunity to work on a broad range of matters including general civil defense, insurance coverage, and workers’ compensation defense on behalf of corporations, individuals, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators. Ideal candidates will be detail-oriented, self-sufficient, and eager to grow professionally in a collaborative legal setting.

Location:

Duties:

  • Handle civil defense and workers’ compensation matters from case inception to resolution

  • Represent clients in proceedings before the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission and Circuit Court

  • Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, and discovery

  • Attend hearings, pre-trials, depositions, and trials

  • Communicate with clients, adjusters, and other counsel regarding case progress

  • Collaborate with partners and senior attorneys on complex litigation

  • Manage deadlines and maintain organized case files

Requirements:

  • 0–4 years of legal experience (civil litigation or workers’ compensation preferred)

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment

  • Willingness to engage in client development and contribute to firm growth

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active admission to the Illinois State Bar

  • Indiana Bar admission is a plus

Skills:

  • Legal research and analytical writing

  • Case management and litigation strategy

  • Oral advocacy in administrative and court proceedings

  • Familiarity with civil procedure and workers’ compensation law
