Job Overview: A law firm in New York City is seeking a Patent Agent/Technology Specialist with a background in mechanical, biomedical, aerospace engineering, or related fields. The ideal candidate will possess strong academic credentials, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and at least 3 years of patent prosecution experience. While an M.S. or M.Eng. in a relevant field is preferred, equivalent industry experience will be considered. Non-registered patent agents must be willing to take and pass the USPTO registration exam within one year of being hired.

Duties:

  • Conducted patent prosecution activities, including drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Collaborate with inventors and attorneys to assess patentability and draft patent specifications.
  • Conduct patentability and prior art searches.
  • Assist in patent portfolio management and strategy development.
  • Provide technical expertise in mechanical, biomedical, aerospace engineering, or related fields.
  • Stay updated with relevant industry trends and legal developments in patent law.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, biomedical, aerospace engineering, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 3 years of patent prosecution experience.
  • Strong academic credentials.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with patent prosecution procedures and USPTO regulations.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Preferred Education and Certifications:

  • M.S. or M.Eng. in a relevant field.
  • Registered Patent Agent with the USPTO.
  • Eligibility to practice before the USPTO.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in conducting patent searches and analyzing prior art.
  • Strong technical background in mechanical, biomedical, aerospace engineering, or related fields.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear and concise patent specifications.
  • Familiarity with patent drafting and prosecution procedures.
