A law firm is seeking a Patent Agent to join their team in New York City. The Patent Agent will play a critical role in supporting patent attorneys with the preparation and prosecution of patent applications. This includes working closely with inventors, conducting research on patentable inventions, drafting patent applications, tracking the patent application process, and responding to office actions from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The ideal candidate should have a bachelor's degree in science or engineering, with a preference for degrees in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science. USPTO Registration is required, and the candidate should have at least 1 year of professional experience, with 2+ years preferred.

 

Duties:

  • Assist patent attorneys in preparing and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Collaborate with inventors on newly created products.
  • Identify patentable inventions through comprehensive research.
  • Draft patent applications in collaboration with the patent team.
  • Track the patent application process from initiation to granted patent.
  • Conduct regular ability searches.
  • Respond to office actions and correspond with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Consistently meet billable hour requirements.
  • Provide solutions to client challenges and respond to client needs.
  • Identify and suggest solutions to day-to-day problems.
  • Prioritize and complete daily tasks efficiently.
  • Share information and keep the team informed about progress and challenges.
  • Provide positive and constructive feedback to peers.
  • Train new employees and anticipate future business needs.
  • Attend required training and accept planned changes willingly.
  • Work collaboratively as a member of the team.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the firm's values, including diversity and inclusion.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering.
  • Preferably, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • USPTO Registration is required.

 

Experience:

  • 1 year of professional experience.
  • Preferably, 2+ years of experience.
