A law firm in Wilmington is seeking a Mid-level Medical Devices and Mechanical Engineering Patent Prosecution Associate Attorney with a strong background in biomedical or mechanical engineering. The ideal candidate should possess substantial patent experience with medical devices and/or mechanical products, coupled with a Juris Doctor (JD) degree and admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The candidate must demonstrate high academic achievement, solid law firm, engineering, or industry experience, along with exceptional writing and communication skills.

 

Duties:

  • Conduct patent preparation and prosecution activities for medical devices and mechanical engineering-related inventions.
  • Draft and file patent applications, responses to office actions, and other legal documents.
  • Provide legal advice and counsel on patent-related matters, including infringement analysis and patentability assessments.
  • Collaborate with inventors, engineers, and other legal professionals to gather necessary information for patent applications.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to support patent prosecution efforts.
  • Attend meetings with clients and assist in intellectual property strategy development.

 

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Bachelor's degree in biomedical or mechanical engineering; other engineering disciplines coupled with substantial patent experience in medical devices and/or mechanical products are acceptable.
  • 3+ years of relevant patent preparation and prosecution experience.

 

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Bachelor's degree in biomedical or mechanical engineering; other engineering disciplines are acceptable.

 

Certifications:

Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

 

Skills:

  • Strong background in biomedical or mechanical engineering.
  • Substantial patent experience with medical devices and/or mechanical products.
  • High level of academic achievement.
  • Solid law firm, engineering, or industry experience.
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills.
