Job Overview: A law firm is seeking a highly qualified Tax Controversy Counsel with extensive experience in tax litigation. The ideal candidate will possess a Juris Doctorate (JD) and LLM in Taxation, along with a strong background in tax court proceedings. Duties:

  • Represent clients in tax litigation matters before federal and state courts.
  • Provide legal advice and counsel on a wide range of tax controversy issues.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to support clients' cases.
  • Draft legal documents, including complaints, motions, and briefs.
  • Negotiate settlements and agreements with tax authorities on behalf of clients.
  • Stay abreast of changes in tax laws and regulations affecting clients' interests.

Requirements:

  • 8-10 years of tax litigation experience.
  • Juris Doctorate (JD) and LLM in Taxation are required.
  • Demonstrated experience in tax court proceedings.
  • Familiarity with civil and criminal tax controversy matters.
  • Experience with whistleblower claims and voluntary offshore disclosures is preferred.
  • Strong academic record and analytical skills.
  • Must be licensed to practice law in North Carolina.

Education:

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • LLM (Master of Laws) in Taxation.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the North Carolina State Bar.
