Intellectual Property Patent Agent

A law firm in Charlotte, NC, is seeking a qualified Intellectual Property Patent Agent with a background in Electrical Engineering (EE), Computer Engineering (CE), or Computer Science (CS), or relevant experience in patent prosecution. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in network architecture, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and cybersecurity. The role requires excellent academic credentials and a preference for candidates registered with the Patent Bar or eligibility to sit for the Patent Bar examination.

Duties:

• Conduct patent prosecution in the areas of network architecture, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and cybersecurity.
• Collaborate with inventors and technical experts to draft and prepare patent applications.
• Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses.
• Respond to office actions from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
• Manage patent portfolios and provide strategic IP counseling.
• Stay informed about advancements in technology and relevant legal developments.
• Work closely with attorneys to support litigation efforts involving intellectual property.

Requirements:

• A Bachelor's degree or better in chemical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related field is required.
• A Bachelor's degree or better in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering is preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in patent prosecution in EE/CE/CS or a relevant field.
• Excellent academic credentials.
• Preference for candidates registered with the Patent Bar.
• Eligibility to sit for the Patent Bar examination is mandatory.

Certifications:

• Registration with the Patent Bar (preferred).
