A law firm in Washington, DC is currently seeking an experienced IP&T Patent Agent to join their dynamic Intellectual Property & Technology (IP&T) practice. The successful candidate, with 5+ years of experience, will work collaboratively with partners, counsels, associates, and fellow patent agents to help clients protect innovative inventions in the forefront of technology. The IP&T Patent Agent will be responsible for meeting with clients to discuss invention disclosures, patent strategy, and ongoing prosecution matters. This role involves evaluating technology, preparing and prosecuting US and foreign patent applications, assisting with opinion writing, providing client counseling, offering litigation support, and delivering technical support for the practice.

 

Job Details:

  • Work collaboratively with partners, counsels, associates, and patent agents.
  • Meet with clients to discuss invention disclosures, patent strategy, and prosecution matters.
  • Evaluate technology for patentability
  • Prepare and prosecute US and foreign patent applications
  • Assist with opinion writing
  • Provide client counseling on intellectual property matters
  • Offer litigation support
  • Provide technical support for the IP&T practice

 

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience independently preparing and prosecuting patent applications in computing and/or electrical arts
  • Must be registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office
  • Previous law firm or in-house experience is required

 

Education:

Bachelor’s degree (and preferably an advanced degree) in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Informatics, or a closely related field

 

Certifications:

Must be registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office

 

Skills:

  • Strong educational background in relevant fields
  • Excellent communication and client-facing skills
  • Ability to independently prepare and prosecute patent applications
  • Litigation support experience
  • Technical expertise in computing and/or electrical arts
