A law firm is seeking a Senior Patent Agent for their Washington, DC office with the following responsibilities, qualifications, and benefits:

Job Overview:

The Senior Patent Agent will be responsible for providing comprehensive patent prosecution support, conducting patent searches, drafting patent applications, and assisting with patent portfolio management. They will collaborate closely with attorneys and clients to strategize and protect intellectual property rights.

Duties:

  • Conduct patent searches and analyses to assess patentability, freedom to operate, and validity of patents.
  • Draft high-quality patent applications and responses to office actions.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, inventors, and attorneys to understand technology and patent strategy.
  • Assist with patent portfolio management, including patent portfolio analysis and development of patent strategies.
  • Provide technical expertise in the fields of computer or software engineering and computer sciences.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in computer or software engineering, or computer sciences.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in patent prosecution and patent portfolio management.
  • Strong academic record demonstrating technical expertise and analytical skills.
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to succeed and advance within the firm.

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree or advanced degree in computer or software engineering, or computer sciences.

Certifications:

  • Patent Agent registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is preferred.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in conducting patent searches and analysis.
  • Excellent drafting skills for patent applications and responses to office actions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
