A law firm is seeking an Employee Benefits Attorney for their Riverside, CA location. This role entails providing legal counsel and expertise in the area of employee benefits, with a focus on qualified retirement plans.

Job Overview:

  • Provide legal counsel on qualified retirement plans, including non-ERISA public retirement plans and church plans.
  • Draft plan documents, summarize plan descriptions, and negotiate service provider contracts.
  • Counsel plan sponsors and fiduciaries on compliance requirements and fiduciary best practices.
  • Manage and maintain significant client relationships.

Duties:

  • Design and ensure compliance of qualified retirement plans with tax and fiduciary regulations.
  • Review investment management agreements and advise on plan governance.
  • Participate in IRS voluntary compliance programs.
  • Provide legal support on governmental 457(b) plans and the Public Employees’ Pension Reform Act of 2013.

Requirements:

  • 8 years of experience in qualified retirement plans.
  • Strong knowledge of ERISA, Internal Revenue Code, and related regulatory frameworks.
  • Admitted to practice law in California.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the California State Bar.

Skills:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong client relationship management skills.
  • Negotiation and drafting abilities.
  • Familiarity with governmental 457(b) and non-ERISA public retirement plans is preferred.
