Jenner & Block Grows Litigation Team in Los Angeles with Addition of Leading National Trial Lawyer Alex Romain

Fredrikson
Jenner & Block has grown its Litigation Department in Los Angeles with the addition of Alex Romain, a leading national trial lawyer with nearly 25 years of experience representing individuals and corporations in a broad range of high-stakes matters.

Alex’s practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, white collar defense, and internal investigations.

“Alex will have an immediate and significant impact in our Los Angeles office across multiple core areas, and we are delighted to welcome him to Jenner & Block,” said Co-Managing Partners Katya Jestin and Randy Mehrberg. “In addition to providing incredible client service, he shares the firm’s passion for pro bono, public service, and community engagement.”

Alex has vast experience representing individuals and corporations in matters alleging campaign finance violations, obstruction of justice, consumer fraud, bank fraud, environmental pollution, theft, and fraudulent misappropriation.

“Alex is a highly skilled lawyer whose experience working with clients across an incredible range of industries and issues nicely complements the work our Litigation team does,” said Partner Todd C. Toral. “Clients turn to him for his guidance on a range of issues such as breach of contract, fraud, or fiduciary obligations, and representation when disputes lead to the courtroom.”

Alex has also handled high-profile white collar defense matters. As a member of the trial team that exonerated the late Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK), Alex played an essential role in getting his conviction voided and indictment dismissed. He also successfully represented the Baltimore Ravens and members of their senior personnel regarding the independent investigation that was conducted by former FBI Director Robert Mueller. Additionally, he has successfully defended numerous law firms, accounting firms, and actuarial firms against claims of professional negligence and malpractice, and on conflicts issues.

“I am looking forward to working with the deep bench of talented lawyers across all the offices at Jenner & Block and particularly expanding the financial services practice in Los Angeles,” said Alex. “Jenner & Block’s values are deeply embedded into the firm’s culture, and I am excited to be a part of a firm with such a demonstrated commitment to inclusion for its lawyers and service to its community.”

Alex maintains an active pro bono practice, recently representing the Alliance for Children’s Rights and the Learning Rights Law Center as lead counsel in a petition before the Supreme Court of California seeking to secure necessary educational services for students with special needs in the Los Angeles Unified School District during the COVID-19 pandemic. He is also heavily involved in the Los Angeles community, serving on the boards of the Los Angeles Master Chorale, Alliance for Children’s Rights, and the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center Advisory Board.

Alex earned his BA from Yale University and his JD from the University of Michigan Law School. He clerked for the Hon. Sandra L. Lynch of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and for the Hon. Reginald C. Lindsay of the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
