BCLP Continues Real Estate Growth with addition of Real Estate Finance Partner

International law firm Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner (BCLP) today announced that Varuna Bhattacharyya has joined the firm as a partner in the New York office. Varuna joins from King & Spalding, where she maintained a well-regarded commercial real estate finance practice while actively participating in diversity and pro bono initiatives.

Varuna advises both borrower and lender clients in all phases of complex real estate financings, from origination through closing. She represents major global financial institutions and real estate funds in all parts of the capital stack, focusing on single-lender as well as agented, multi-lender transactions involving a myriad of asset types, including office, hospitality, residential, warehouses and retail on a local, regional and national basis. Varuna’s finance experience includes acquisition, construction, bridge and permanent loans, as well as complicated intercreditor, co-lender and leveraged arrangements.

“BCLP’s forward looking vision was a key differentiator for me. This is a firm that is very strategic about growth and is investing in the next generation of partners by providing a supportive platform focused on collaboration and synergies. This is a dynamic leadership and a very exciting time to be at BCLP and I am thrilled to be joining the team,” Varuna added.

In addition, Varuna represents both tenants and landlords in connection with all aspects of commercial leasing transactions.

“Varuna’s addition to our global Real Estate Practice will benefit our clients firmwide,” said Regional Practice Group Leader-Real Estate (US) Andrew Auerbach. “Her specific breadth and depth of experience working with many of the most active players in the real estate market, specifically in the areas of construction and leveraged lending, will complement our practice nicely. We are very happy to welcome her to the firm and look forward to the expansion of new and existing relationships.”
