Sidley Continues Growing Its Private Equity Practice with Native Miami Partner Gabriel Valdes and Three Native Miami Corporate Associates

Sidley is pleased to announce that Gabriel (Gaby) Valdes will be joining the firm as a Global M&A and Private Equity partner in Miami. Prior to joining Sidley, Mr. Valdes, a Miami native, was a corporate partner in the Private Equity practice at McDermott Will & Emery. In addition, Miami natives Karla Utset, previously at McDermott Will & Emery; Marcos Alvarez, previously at Holland & Knight; and Anabelle Dahdah, previously at Jones Day, will be joining in Miami as senior managing associates in the M&A and Private Equity global practice group.

Mr. Valdes focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, divestitures, and other corporate transactions involving primarily private equity sponsors, fundless sponsors, family offices, and other private companies. He also advises his clients on a broad range of non-transactional corporate, governance, and strategic planning matters, drawing on his experience with clients from a variety of industries and market capitalizations, with extensive experience in the healthcare space. Outside of the firm, Mr. Valdes is an adjunct professor of law at the University of Miami School of Law, where he teaches courses on advanced transactional skills and drafting private equity documents.

“The addition of Gaby will support the significant growth we are experiencing in our private equity practice,” said Dan Clivner, global co-leader of the firm’s global M&A and Private Equity practice and a member of Sidley’s Executive Committee. “As we continue to add to our team, talented partners like Gaby and our new associates will be instrumental in providing the high-quality service clients expect from Sidley.”

“We’re excited to have Gaby, a native Miamian who is bilingual, join us as we grow our presence in Miami,” said Yvette Ostolaza, Sidley’s Management Committee Chair. “Beyond being an exceptional lawyer, Gaby’s local ties will be a great fit with our culture and he will be a leader in the recruitment and development of younger talent like Marcos, Karla, and Anabelle, who are also locals. Sidley is committed to building a high-performing, diverse talent team that benefits our clients across the globe. Miami has a great talent pool of lawyers.”
