Consumer Financial Services Enforcement Attorney Michael Gordon Joins Ballard Spahr as Partner
Mr. Gordon focuses on enforcement actions and regulatory counseling in the CFS industry. His practice includes advising clients on banking and bank partnerships, consumer and commercial credit, blockchain and digital assets, payments, regulatory strategy, risk management, and corporate governance. Mr. Gordon was a member of the original team that started the CFPB, and he served in senior roles at the agency for five years.
Mr. Gordon comes to Ballard Spahr from Bradley, where he served as Co-chair of the Fintech Team.
“In a market for legal talent that has never been more competitive, established and successful attorneys like Mike are joining our Consumer Financial Services Group because our national platform and incredible roster of lawyers is second to none,” said John Socknat, who leads the group alongside Dan McKenna. “Mike’s CFPB and private practice experience make him exactly the sort of attorney who will elevate our practice group even further, and our clients will benefit from his unique perspective and experience.”
Mr. Gordon is the third attorney to join Ballard Spahr’s Consumer Financial Services Group in the past week, following the March 21 arrival of Lisa Lanham and Rinaldo Martinez. The 75-plus attorneys of the top-ranked national practice advise on regulatory matters, assist in the design and documentation of credit products, and represent clients in class actions, government regulatory enforcement proceedings, and other lawsuits nationwide. The group has been recognized as one of the nation’s preeminent consumer finance practices by leading legal industry publications, including Chambers USA and The Legal 500.
“The Consumer Financial Services bench at Ballard Spahr is the gold standard, and I’m excited to be a part of it,” Mr. Gordon said. “My practice will be a perfect fit for the excellent work these attorneys are doing.”
