Choate Adds New Tax Partners Judy Fiorini and Ed Saad

Choate has welcomed Judy Fiorini and Ed Saad as partners in the Firm’s Tax practice as additional resources to support the Firm’s transactional clients.

Judy counsels private equity and venture capital funds, multinational banks, financial institutions, and international corporations on complex tax issues. She regularly represents clients on tax matters that arise from domestic and cross-border transactions, mergers and acquisitions, structured finance, partnership transactions, controlled foreign corporations (CFC) issues, foreign tax credit issues, and transactions involving bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Judy also advises on tax reporting, disclosure, and withholding requirements, including foreign bank account reporting (FBAR) and Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA).

Ed brings a unique, business-savvy perspective to his work advising clients on a broad range of U.S. and international transactions and tax structuring. He has experience working with private equity sponsors and financial institutions on domestic and cross-border M&A transactions and strategic tax planning, and has represented fund sponsors and multinational businesses on corporate, deal, and fund structuring in a range of industries, including private equity and real estate.

Judy previously served as Partner at Sheppard Mullin and Special Counsel at Sullivan & Cromwell, and spent three years as a Managing Director at the Royal Bank of Canada.

Ed previously served as a Principal at PwC, a multinational professional services network of firms, and Senior Vice President of Tax & Legal Structuring at Harvard Management Company, which manages Harvard University’s endowment and related financial assets. Ed began his career at Cleary Gottlieb and Simpson Thacher.
