Epstein Becker Green Continues Growth Through Major Midwest Expansion with Addition of 12 Partners in Ohio

Epstein Becker Green (“EBG”) is pleased to announce its expansion into Columbus, Ohio, the 14th most populous city in the United States, with a group of former Bricker & Eckler LLP attorneys with distinguished health care, labor and employment, and litigation experience. The team is led by health care partners Jennifer M. Nelson Carney and Stephen R. Kleinman, and employment partner James G. Petrie. To date, the team also includes partners Chris Bennington, Jill K. Bigler, Jonathan T. Brollier, Kevin M. Hilvert, David M. Johnston, Elizabeth A. Kastner, Allen R. Killworth, Victoria Flinn McCurdy, and Jeremy R. Morris.

“Ohio is the fastest growing market in the Midwest, and we’re thrilled to add depth and breadth in our three areas of focus with a group held in such high regard in the market,” said Mark E. Lutes, Chair of EBG’s Board of Directors. “Through this team of noted practitioners, we have an opportunity to problem solve for health care clients, and a range of employers with workforce issues, in the region’s strong and diversified economy.”

Former chair of Bricker & Eckler’s Health Care industry group, Ms. Nelson Carney has spent 17 years focused on the business and regulatory needs of hospitals, health systems, and other health care entities. She helps clients navigate complex issues surrounding transactions, health information technology, and health care operations. Ms. Nelson Carney also advises upon state and federal health care policy.

“The health care industry is embracing tremendous opportunity, and we’re eager to join and collaborate with the talented team at EBG this critical time for our clients,” said Ms. Nelson Carney. “It was important to my practice and partners that we join forces with a team that was excited to grow in Ohio and work alongside our clients in the same ways we already do. We look forward to tapping into all of the firm’s terrific resources to enhance our current offerings and better serve our national client base.”

Mr. Kleinman has more than 25 years of medical staff experience and works closely with hospital and physician leadership nationally to address quality improvement issues. He counsels leadership regarding best practices with respect to medical staff appointment, clinical privileging, and peer review and works extensively with health care systems on drafting and updating medical staff governing documents, including bylaws, rules and regulations, and policies. Mr. Kleinman also advises hospice, long-term care providers, and developmental disability service providers regarding regulatory and day-to-day operational issues.

Mr. Petrie served as the former chair of Bricker & Eckler’s Employment & Labor group and brings nearly three decades of experience to employer workforce matters. His practice emphasizes employment-related disputes and litigation, compliance training, and advice and counsel to employers of all sizes and throughout many industries. A significant portion of his client base is within the health care industry, where he counsels boards and health care professionals on employment best practices.

Mr. Brollier is a seasoned litigator and trial attorney, with a diverse array of clients and substantial experience in healthcare related matters.

“Beyond partnering with attorneys in our core practice areas and the natural culture fit that we discovered, we’re deeply impressed with the experience this group brings to EBG,” said Steven Di Fiore, EBG’s Chief Operating Officer. “This initiative is another example of our Firm’s client-centered growth strategy, which focuses on expanding key practices and industries, and markets that matter to our clients, with high-caliber hires.”

“EBG’s capabilities, size, and depth and breadth in our key practice areas are a perfect fit for our clients,” said Mr. Kleinman. “We feel we have found a great new home at EBG. Together, we will bring insights and solutions in health care, labor and employment, and related litigation matters to our clients,” he added.

“The chance to join EBG’s exceptional team of health care and labor and employment attorneys provides a wonderful opportunity to bring additional resources to our client base,” said Mr. Petrie.
