Prominent Energy Finance Lawyer Joins Baker Botts in Houston

Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international energy, technology and life sciences law firm, announced today that Richard Sitton has joined the firm as a senior counsel in the Finance Section of the Corporate Department in Houston.

Sitton has more than 35 years of experience representing clients involved in the energy sector. He has extensive experience in energy financing, focusing on debt transactions in the oil and gas industry, representing corporate borrowers, commercial banks, mezzanine lenders and institutional investors. He also advises upstream, midstream, engineering and oilfield services companies in addition to downstream entities that include refineries, petrochemical manufacturers and power generation companies.

Sitton’s arrival follows that of Shad Sumrow, Thompson & Knight’s former firmwide Finance Practice Leader, who recently joined Baker Botts as a partner in Dallas.

“The addition of Richard will further strengthen our growing representation of strategic lenders to the energy industry,” said Luke Weedon, Partner in Charge of Baker Botts’ Dallas office and Firmwide Finance Section Chair. “Richard is a highly regarded lawyer in the industry, and we are delighted to welcome him to the firm.”

Prior to joining Shearman & Sterling in 2019, Sitton practiced at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett. He is ranked in Chambers USA 2021 as a leading lawyer in Banking & Finance in Texas.

“I am very excited to be joining Luke, Shad and the excellent finance team at Baker Botts,” Sitton said. “They are well regarded and have an outstanding reputation in the industry, and I am proud to be a part of the team.”

The Baker Botts Finance team, which includes lawyers in the American College of Investment Counsel and those who are recognized in multiple peer-based and client-based listings, represents financial institutions, corporate borrowers, securities issuers and other participants in complex debt financings and liability management transactions.
