John McBlain, prominent Delaware County real estate and development attorney, joins Saxton & Stump
Attorney John P. McBlain has joined Saxton & Stump, bringing more than two decades of real estate, municipal law and litigation experience. A native of Aldan Borough, McBlain has served in county and community leadership positions and played a key role in numerous large and small real estate development projects that have reshaped Delaware County.
“John has built a reputation not only as an attorney but as a political and community leader in southeastern Pennsylvania and we are pleased to welcome him to the firm,” CEO James W. In his practice, McBlain serves as solicitor or general counsel for local governments, municipal authorities, zoning hearing boards and nonprofit organizations. He also assists individuals and businesses with real estate matters involving zoning, land development, redevelopment, adaptive reuse, acquisitions and agreements of sale and leases. John also has extensive experience representing property owners in tax assessment appeals.
Prior to joining Saxton & Stump, McBlain was an attorney in Swartz Campbell’s Media, PA office for 25 years. He has longstanding relationships with political leaders and community influencers particularly in southeastern Pennsylvania, having previously served as a member and Chairman of the Delaware County Council as well as Solicitor for the County of Delaware. He received his J.D. from Widener University School of Law and his B.A. in political science from Villanova University.
While representing the Redevelopment Authority of the County of Delaware, McBlain handled acquiring a portion of environmentally-damaged waterfront, formerly a shipbuilding site, that was redeveloped into Harrah’s Philly Racetrack and Casino. He also led negotiations for Subaru Park, the home of Major League Soccer’s Philadelphia Union. Currently, he serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of the Delaware Valley Regional Finance Authority, a body created to provide loans for capital projects to boroughs, townships, cities, school districts and counties and he also served as Delaware County’s representative on the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, the Metropolitan Planning Organization designated for the Greater Philadelphia Region.
McBlain is also well-known in his local community, and previously served as a member of the Aldan Borough Council for 17 years. In 2019, the Borough Council meeting building was renamed and dedicated as the “John P. McBlain Community Center.” He has been recognized for his efforts to advocate for abused and neglected children in the dependency courts and was most recently recognized for his advocacy and support of transportation needs of elderly, disabled and special needs citizens.
