Baker Botts Expands Financial Restructuring Practice with Addition of Partner in Houston

Summary: “We expect the elevated level of financial restructuring work we are seeing to continue for some time,” said John Martin, Managing Partner of Baker Botts.

Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international energy, technology and life sciences law firm, announced today that David R. Eastlake has joined the firm as a partner in the Financial Restructuring Practice, based in Houston.

“We expect the elevated level of financial restructuring work we are seeing to continue for some time,” said John Martin, Managing Partner of Baker Botts. “Adding David increases our scale in an important market for our national practice as we continue to build our team of experienced and talented financial restructuring practitioners to meet the needs of our clients in this dynamic environment.”

Eastlake joins the firm from Greenberg Traurig, where he was a shareholder in the Restructuring and Bankruptcy Practice. He focuses his practice primarily on the representation of debtors in possession, official and ad hoc committees, significant creditors and secured lenders in complex Chapter 11 reorganization cases, Chapter 7 liquidations, out-of-court restructurings, and commercial and bankruptcy-related litigation matters, including those in the energy industry. In addition, Eastlake has experience in corporate transactions and corporate governance, including commercial financings, oil and gas transactions and other general corporate matters.

“With complex bankruptcy filings maintaining a consistently high and steady pace, particularly in the Southern District of Texas, we could not be more pleased that David decided to join us,” said Manny Grillo, Chair of Baker Botts’ Financial Restructuring Practice. “I have worked with David in several restructuring matters and can personally attest to his preparation, skill and thoroughness. He earns the respect of the court and the trust of his clients. We are delighted to welcome him to Baker Botts.”

“I am excited to join Baker Botts and its growing financial restructuring group. I have had the opportunity to work with Manny Grillo and other attorneys at Baker Botts in the past and have always been impressed by their skill, commitment to excellence and strong client focus, and their ability to consistently achieve favorable results for clients,” Eastlake said. “The Southern District of Texas has witnessed a spate of large, complex Chapter 11 filings during the past several years that is only expected to continue. I look forward to helping the firm expand its restructuring capabilities in Houston and beyond to better serve our clients.”

Eastlake earned his J.D., with honors, from the George Washington University Law School in 2007 and his B.B.A. and M.P.A. from the University of Texas at Austin in 2001.

Baker Botts’ financial restructuring lawyers guide and advise their clients through the complex terrain of out-of-court workouts, reorganization cases and liquidations. The practice spans virtually every major industry and geographic region of the country and includes representation of financially distressed companies, creditors, official committees, asset acquirers and financial institutions in every aspect of complex reorganization proceedings.
