Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP is pleased to announce new leadership for its international restructuring and insolvency group under veteran bankruptcy attorney, Robert Honeywell. With over 27 years of experience, Mr. Honeywell is particularly focused on bankruptcy litigation and bankruptcy risk analysis in structured finance. His practice has developed a distinct international flavor and includes extensive experience advising international entities on the intricacies of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code and U.S. bankruptcy litigation risks.

The announcement reflects the international focus of the firm and is the latest in a series of new lateral partner hires across the international law firm’s New York, London, Dubai and Milan offices and a continued strengthening of its key practices that serve a global clientele.

Mr. Honeywell joins Curtis from K&L Gates, where his clients include U.S. and foreign investment funds, lenders, creditors and suppliers. He has deep experience in the U.S. Bankruptcy Code’s safe harbor provisions and bankruptcy clawback actions and has represented his clients in prominent litigations at the bankruptcy courts and at the appellate levels. He has also advised on bankruptcy recharacterization and “true sale” risks in M&A and financial transactions, distressed asset purchases, and broker-dealer collateral custody issues under the Securities Investor Protection Act. Notable bankruptcy work for Mr. Honeywell includes representation of aircraft lessors and lenders in the recent Chapter 11 cases of Avianca, LATAM, and Aeroméxico; defense of investment funds and banks against clawback litigation in the Tribune, Lyondell, Lehman, Arcapita and Adelphia bankruptcies; and representation of creditors’ committees and subcommittees in the Global Crossing bankruptcy and the first Avianca bankruptcy.

“We’re pleased that Robert will be leading our global bankruptcy team from New York. He is a talented attorney and his balanced emphasis on international insolvencies and domestic restructuring will steer our high-growth corporate and restructuring practices forward. He will be an asset to our overall growth plan,” said George Kahale III, Curtis Chairman and Chair of the firm’s market-leading international arbitration practice.

Mr. Honeywell commented, “I am delighted to join Curtis. The firm's international platform and network of highly-skilled attorneys around the globe will be ideal for my professional growth and success."

He is a member of INSOL International, a prestigious world-wide network of leaders within the insolvency field. Mr. Honeywell is admitted to practice in New York and Texas, and to the U.S. District Courts–Southern District of New York and Eastern District of New York, and Second Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mr. Honeywell has a J.D. from Yale Law School and a B.A. (summa cum laude) from Duke University, where he focused on Latin American politics and language studies in Spanish and Portuguese.
