Venable LLP announced the addition of former U.S. Prosecutor Evan T. Shea to their team. Shea will be part of Baltimore’s litigation practice as counsel. He is rejoining the private sector after serving as the assistant U.S. Attorney in the District of Maryland since 2012. For the past two years, he was the chief of the office’s Asset Forfeiture & Money Laundering Section.

Chair Geoffrey R. Garinther of Venable’s Litigation Division said, “Evan’s stellar reputation and outstanding track record as a prosecutor will add tremendous depth to our litigation team. He is well regarded and highly accomplished, and we are thrilled to welcome him to our team.”

During his time at the U.S. Attorney’s office, he led the Maryland Financial Crimes Task Force. There he prosecuted a range of criminal and civil cases involving money laundering, tax, fraud, asset forfeiture, and bank secrecy act violations. Prior to joining the U.S. Attorney’s office, he was an associate at a law firm in Washington D.C. There he helped clients such as corporations and individuals through investigations by the SEC, DOJ, FDA, and Congress. He was also a law clerk for the Honorable Benson E. Legg in Maryland’s U.S. District Court.

Partner-in-charge of the Baltimore office, Courtney G. Capute, added, “Our Baltimore office provides counsel to clients across a range of industries, many of which are highly regulated. Evan’s addition to our team of seasoned litigators will enhance the full-service legal capabilities we can provide to our clients.”

Shea received a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. He earned his A.B. from Princeton University.
