Top Entertainment and IP Litigator Joins DLA Piper

DLA Piper is pleased to announce the addition of a leading entertainment and IP litigator to their firm. Douglas Emhoff will join the firm as a partner in their Los Angeles and Washington D.C. offices. He will be part of the Intellectual Property and Technology practice and their Media, Sport and Entertainment team.
Emhoff is joining DLA Piper from Venable where he was key in their expansion in the West Coast area. With DLA Piper, he will balance a litigation practice in Washington D.C., and Los Angeles, working with clients in the media and entertainment, advertising, sports, digital media, hospitality, technology, and character licensing industries.
DLA Piper global co-chairman and co-chairman of the Americas Roger Meltzer said, “Doug has served as litigation counsel and trusted advisor for some of the biggest names in Hollywood and across the entertainment, media and sports spectrum. His arrival is an important strategic move for us not just in Southern California, but for our wider global sector capabilities.”
DLA Piper global co-CEO and co-chairman of the Americas Jay Rains added, “Doug has built offices from the ground up in important markets like LA and San Francisco, and we look to take advantage of that experience in further building out our West Coast capabilities. He also has significant litigation experience in core subject matter areas that are important to the firm, so he’s a very attractive add on both these fronts.”
The addition of Emhoff coincides with DLA Piper’s merger with Liner LLP
, a leading Los Angeles-based boutique that specializes in litigation, real estate, media and entertainment, restructuring, and business transactions. The merger takes effect on October 1.
