Law firm Manatt, Phelps & Phillips LLP announced the addition of a highly regarded consumer financial services lawyer to their firm. Richard E. Gottlieb will be joining the Los Angeles office as a partner in the Financial Services group. He is joining from BuckleySandler LLP where he was a partner as well.

Gottlieb is known for his work counseling and defending clients such as banks, servicers, mortgage lenders, finance companies, retailers, student lenders, marketplace and peer-to-peer lenders, insurers, and more.

Co-chair of the Financial Services Litigation group Donna Wilson said, “Richard literally wrote the book on consumer financial services law, and his addition to our litigation and government enforcement team is a value add for our combined client roster.” Gottlieb writes the “Consumer Financial Services Answer Book” which is published each year by the Practising Law Institute. It is used by banks, mortgage lenders, auto finance companies, and credit card issuers.

Gottlieb received his B.A. from Vanderbilt University, a J.D. from State University of New York, and a LL.M. from Georgetown University. Chambers USA ranks Gottlieb as one of 15 “Leading Lawyers” in the Financial Services category.
