Two firms approve settlement over ex-police monitor

Settlement of claims against Saul Ewing and Venable over legal fees billed by Sheryl Robinson Wood has been approved by Detroit City Council committee. Both the firms have agreed to pay a shared total of $350,000 for work that Wood did while overseeing Detroit's police department as monitor from 2003 until 2009. According to the claim, Detroit required to regain $10 million as fees that was paid to its defendants with regards to the allegedly fake invoices because of an inappropriate relationship between Wood and Kilpatrick, whose own myriad legal troubles have been well documented here. Saul Ewing received $2.5 million in relation to her Detroit work. Before joining Detroit, Robinson was associated with Kroll, which received $6.2 million for Wood's monitoring services.
