Bayh will join as both partner and strategic consultant. Not only did Bayh serve as a Senator for Indiana, but he served two terms as the state's governor. Bayh listed Washington's partisan politics as a reason not to run for a third term in the U.S. Senate. ''[McGuireWoods'] national and increasingly global presence gives me a broad platform to develop a challenging practice serving a wide variety of clients at the highest level,'' said Bayh.

In a statement released by the firm itself, it said, ''Bayh will serve as a strategic advisor to the firm's most significant domestic and international clients, particularly those whose business goals are impacted by public policy, the actions of Congress, the executive branch or by governors and legislatures across the country.''
