Juris Doctor, Fordham University School of Law
Bachelor of Arts (Classics), College of the Holy Cross

Tricia McGrath is a Recruiter in the New York office of BCG Attorney Search.

Tricia is originally from New York and attended the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Classics. After working for nonprofit trade associations in both Boston and Washington, D.C., she attended Fordham University School of Law in New York City. At Fordham, Tricia was the Irving R. Kaufman Securities Law Competition Editor, a member of the Fordham Moot Court Board, responsible for hosting a national securities moot court competition. Upon graduation from law school in 1998, Tricia worked as a tax associate for Shearman & Sterling in NYC and later as a corporate associate for Davis Polk & Wardwell in Menlo Park, California. She is admitted to practice in both New York and California.

As a tax associate, Tricia focused predominately on the tax aspects of mergers & acquisitions of domestic and international corporations, corporate finance transactions and partnership issues. As a corporate associate, her practice consisted of mergers & acquisitions, corporate finance transactions and private equity investments. In her pro bono practice, she represented nonprofit organizations on general corporate and tax matters.

Tricia joined BCG because of its esteemed reputation in legal recruiting. Her reason for becoming a legal recruiter was simple. She wants to help attorneys find jobs. She has extensive knowledge of the New York legal market and knows that cultures vary widely among firms. She utilizes this knowledge to find the best match for each candidate and law firm, helping both to achieve their respective goals and agendas. As a former lateral candidate herself, Tricia is personally familiar with the excitement, fears and concerns that can accompany the lateral recruiting process. She has special experience with the issues surrounding relocation, having relocated to Washington, D.C., California and New York for career opportunities.

Throughout her career, Tricia has had an international practice. She is well-acquainted with firms around the world. She is very interested in working with both domestic attorneys who are interested in practicing outside of the United States and foreign attorneys who want to practice here in the United States.

Tricia is the president of the Executive Women's Golf Association - New York City Chapter, a business networking group of almost 300 members. She is a founder of Fordham Tax Alumni, a group designed to increase relations between Fordham students and Fordham tax practitioner alumni. Tricia lives in Manhattan.

Recently Graduated and Unemployed: Assistance with Your Hunt for a Permanent Legal Position
How Golf Found Me

  • Tricia assisted me with my search for a lateral position with a NY law firm while I was a senior associate with a Magic Circle firm in London.

Tricia exceeded all my expectations. Right from the start she made a point of understanding what my needs and aspirations were before recommending potential employers. At all times she showed respect for my own choices and went to great lengths to provide me with objective information and advice so I could make an informed decision. I was impressed by how hard she worked and the dedication and focus she demonstrated in advancing my interests.

My search was successful and through Tricia I was able to secure a position with a top firm in NY. Tricia assisted me throughout the process of interviewing, negotiating the terms of my employment, references and followed-up with me after I had accepted the position. I am very thankful to Tricia as I was successful in obtaining a position with the firm that was my top choice. I would not hesitate to recommend her to an attorney seeking a lateral position.

  • Tricia was of enormous help to me in my search for the next step in my legal career. Relocating from New York to Pittsburgh is not the ordinary associate track, but Tricia treated my job search as an individualized process. We discussed my goals, practice area and work environment and most importantly, what I wasn't looking for. She was responsive, proactive, and dedicated to finding the best fit for me. I am very happy with my move to Pittsburgh and can't thank Tricia enough for helping me find work at a law firm that genuinely keeps me engaged and challenged.

  • Upon deciding to make a lateral move to a new legal market across the country, I interviewed half-a-dozen headhunters before settling on BCG and Tricia. From our very first conversation, I was impressed with Tricia’s tremendous enthusiasm and obvious love and dedication to her work. And I was not disappointed. Tricia proved an invaluable resource from start to finish in my job search process. After presenting me with an initial list of multiple fantastic opportunities in the legal market I was targeting, Tricia helped me narrow the list to the few that best met my goals. Over the next couple of months, Tricia was a zealous advocate, enabling me to interview with and receive offers from my top choices – each of them positions with exciting and elite international law firms. Furthermore, Tricia proved a vital ongoing resource in helping me assess my options and make a final decision. She literally spent hours patiently helping me analyze the pros and cons and provided endless information regarding each opportunity. I have already recommended Tricia to friends and will continue to enthusiastically do so. I believe that Tricia offers the best of two worlds when it comes to headhunters — she offers both incredible personal attention and the recognized name and depth of resources that come with a national recruiting firm like BCG.

  • My past experiences with headhunters have been less than impressive. I've been surprised and thrilled with your assistance and counsel.

  • Thank you for your help and advice. I enjoyed working with you. You were great! I'd definitely recommend you.

  • Tricia was an invaluable asset in my job search. I've worked with legal recruiters before, but never had the results that I had with Tricia. She was able to match my goals with the positions she had available in order to focus my search on the best fit for me. Needless to say, the results were fantastic. I couldn't be happier with where I am now. Tricia truly knows the legal market and has the connections to get her candidates noticed at the most prestigious law firms. That she loves what she does is evident in her dedication to helping her candidates find the right placement, not just any placement. I would highly recommend Tricia to anyone interested in making a change in their law firm career.
