Job Title: Environmental Associate Attorney

Job Overview:

A respected law firm located in Birmingham, AL, is seeking a motivated legal professional to support its environmental law division. This role involves advising on regulatory compliance, managing environmental risks in transactions, and handling related litigation. The ideal candidate will bring a proactive approach to problem-solving and a demonstrated interest in environmental and administrative law.

Duties:

  • Provide legal support on environmental regulatory matters, including permitting, compliance, and enforcement.

  • Assist clients with due diligence, environmental risk analysis, and disclosure during transactions.

  • Represent clients in environmental litigation and administrative proceedings.

  • Interpret and apply federal and state environmental statutes and regulations.

  • Draft legal memoranda, client advisories, pleadings, and regulatory submissions.

  • Collaborate with internal teams and external experts to develop strategic legal solutions.

  • Stay up to date with evolving environmental laws and policy developments.

Requirements:

  • 2-6 years of relevant experience in environmental law, including regulatory, transactional, or litigation matters.

  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in legal practice.

  • Strong legal writing, analysis, and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail.

  • Willingness to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school

  • Academic ranking in the top 25% of the graduating class preferred

Certifications:

  • Active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state Bar

  • Admission to practice law in Alabama or eligibility to obtain admission promptly

Skills:

  • Excellent research and drafting proficiency

  • Deep understanding of environmental laws such as the Clean Water Act, CERCLA, and RCRA

  • Analytical thinking with the ability to anticipate legal issues
