Job Overview: A law firm in Salt Lake City, UT, is seeking a Mid-Level Patent Associate Attorney with 2+ years of prosecution experience, particularly in portfolio management. The ideal candidate will have a background in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Optics, Physics, or Biomedical with an electrical or software focus, along with a demonstrated interest in optics, acoustics, video and audio signal processing, codecs, virtual/augmented reality, and microscopy systems and imaging techniques. Experience in software and AI is a plus.

Duties:

  • Conduct patent prosecution, including preparing and prosecuting patent applications
  • Manage patent portfolios and provide strategic counseling to clients
  • Conduct patent analysis and opinions of counsel
  • Participate in inter partes reviews (IPRs)
  • Stay abreast of new technologies and relevant legal developments

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Optics, Physics, or Biomedical (with an electrical or software focus)
  • 2+ years of prosecution experience at a firm or in-house
  • Experience with portfolio management
  • Admission to the USPTO is a plus
  • Graduate-level experience or advanced technical degree is a plus
  • Involvement with patent analysis/opinions of counsel and IPRs is a plus
