Job Overview:

A law firm located in Palo Alto, CA, is seeking a mid-level associate (1-3 years' experience) through a legal recruiting partner to join its Data, Privacy, and Cybersecurity practice. This role supports cross-border and domestic corporate transactions involving sensitive data, privacy considerations, and cybersecurity risk, including mergers and acquisitions, IPOs, and complex commercial deals. The position offers the opportunity to collaborate with innovators across sectors such as AI, cloud infrastructure, fintech, and enterprise software.

Duties:

  • Support deal teams by advising on privacy and data issues in M&A, securities offerings, and strategic transactions

  • Draft and negotiate privacy-related provisions in transaction documents

  • Analyze legal risks related to cross-border data transfers and cybersecurity compliance

  • Work closely with clients on evolving global data protection laws, including U.S. federal/state and international frameworks

  • Coordinate due diligence on data governance and privacy controls during transactional reviews

  • Contribute to thought leadership initiatives and stay current on developments in data and technology regulation

Requirements:

  • 1-3 years of legal experience in transactional work (e.g., M&A, capital markets, or tech deals)

  • Demonstrated interest or experience in the intersection of law, technology, and data regulation

  • Familiarity with key data privacy laws (such as GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, HIPAA, etc.)

  • Experience advising technology clients is highly preferred

  • Capable of working in fast-paced, deal-driven environments with evolving regulatory landscapes

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • CIPP certification (preferred)

  • Admission to the State Bar of California or eligibility to waive in

Skills:

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate legal issues into practical advice

  • High attention to detail and organizational efficiency in handling complex deal structures

  • Excellent verbal and written communication capabilities

  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across teams and jurisdictions

  • Proficiency in legal research tools and experience in transactional document drafting
