Job Overview:

A respected law firm in San Jose, California is seeking a motivated and skilled Associate Immigration Attorney to join its growing immigration practice. This is an excellent opportunity for a licensed attorney to build a career within a dynamic legal environment focused on removal defense, USCIS representation, and family-based immigration matters. The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload, engage in client representation before immigration courts and federal agencies, and collaborate closely with a supportive legal team.

Location:

  • San Jose, California

Duties:

  • Represent clients (detained and non-detained) in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals

  • Prepare and review diverse immigration applications including family-based petitions, asylum, humanitarian relief, and naturalization

  • Conduct legal intakes with detained individuals and assess eligibility for relief

  • Draft and submit motions such as Motions to Recalendar, Change Venue, Terminate, Withdraw, and Consolidate

  • Coordinate with DHS regarding joint motions as appropriate

  • Develop legal strategies and prepare clients and witnesses for USCIS interviews and court testimony

  • Conduct consultations with prospective clients and advise on potential legal remedies

  • Maintain communication with clients and monitor case deadlines

  • Work with law enforcement and community partners on immigration law developments

  • Utilize case management software for efficient case tracking and documentation

Requirements:

  • 1–4 years of experience in immigration law

  • Demonstrated ability to manage a high-volume caseload

  • Experience handling EOIR matters, detained cases, and USCIS applications

  • Familiarity with family-based immigration and humanitarian petitions

  • Experience using legal case management systems (preferred)

  • Must be a collaborative team player with a proactive and solutions-driven approach

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications:

  • Active and in good standing with a U.S. state bar

  • California Bar admission preferred or eligibility to waive in

Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal advocacy skills

  • Excellent legal research and analytical abilities

  • High-level interpersonal communication and client engagement skills

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred)

  • Detail-oriented with strong time-management and organizational skills
