A law firm in Greenville, SC, is seeking a skilled Patent Agent with 2-6 years of legal experience, particularly in intellectual property (IP) law, for drafting and patent prosecution. The ideal candidate will have a background in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field, with additional design engineering experience, preferably in a chip company. Candidates with expertise in networking, software, 3G/4G/5G wireless networks, or similar areas are highly preferred. USPTO admission is required, and bar licensure in California is a plus.

Duties:

  • Conduct prior art searches and patentability analyses.
  • Draft patent applications and responses to office actions.
  • Assist in patent prosecution and correspondence with clients and examiners.
  • Conducted patent portfolio analyses and assisted in patent portfolio management.

Requirements:

  • 2-6 years of legal experience, preferably in intellectual property law.
  • Experience with drafting and patent prosecution in IP law.
  • Background in computer science, electrical engineering, or related fields.
  • Design engineering experience, preferably in a chip company.
  • Familiarity with networking, software, 3G/4G/5G wireless networks, or similar technologies.
  • Admission to the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the USPTO.
