Job Overview

A prominent Michigan-based law firm is currently seeking a Junior Environmental Law Associate to join its Real Estate and Environmental Services team. This role presents an exceptional opportunity for early-career attorneys to work on a broad range of environmental legal matters in a collaborative, development-focused environment. The position offers exposure to regulatory compliance, litigation, transactional due diligence, and policy engagement, with direct interaction with clients and government agencies.

Duties

  • Advise clients on federal, state, and local environmental compliance, including:

    • Site remediation

    • Waste management

    • Air emissions

    • Wastewater discharges

    • Chemical regulation

  • Conduct legal research and prepare legal memoranda

  • Assist with environmental due diligence in real estate and business transactions

  • Support environmental litigation efforts

  • Interact with regulatory agencies regarding permitting and enforcement matters

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of experience practicing environmental law in at least one of the following areas:

    • Regulatory compliance

    • Litigation

    • Transactional support

    • Policy advisory

  • Demonstrated ability to perform legal research and draft complex legal documents

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Admission to the State Bar of Michigan (required)

  • Cover letter must specify preferred office location

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications

  • Active and good standing with the Michigan State Bar
