A law firm seeks a Public Safety Associate Attorney for its Cerritos, CA, location.

Job Overview:

The Public Safety Associate Attorney will handle labor and employment matters predominantly for public sector clients, such as city, county, and/or state agencies. The role requires expertise in public safety matters, including knowledge of the Public Safety Procedural Bill of Rights Act ("POBR") and the Firefighter Procedural Bill of Rights Act ("FBOR"). The ideal candidate should have experience in trial/arbitration preparation and participation, administrative proceedings, collective bargaining agreements, employee grievances, workplace investigations, and legal research.

Duties:

  • Handle labor and employment matters for public sector clients.
  • Prepare cases for trial/arbitration and participate in trials, arbitrations, and administrative proceedings.
  • Negotiate collective bargaining agreements and assist clients with employee grievances.
  • Conduct workplace investigations, including interviews and document reviews.
  • Draft Investigation Reports, Notices of Intent to Discipline, and Closing Briefs.
  • Interface with clients, providing legal and strategic advice with limited supervision.
  • Perform comprehensive legal research and analysis within specific timelines.
  • Support senior attorneys by preparing legal memoranda and opinions.
  • Develop litigation plans and/or courses of action.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in labor and employment law.
  • Experience exclusively or predominantly with public sector clients.
  • Familiarity with POBR and FBOR.
  • Strong trial/arbitration preparation and participation skills.
  • Knowledge of collective bargaining agreements and labor relations.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and client management skills.

Education & Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to practice law in California.
  • Certification in labor and employment law preferred.
