A law firm in Ridgeland, MS, is seeking a General Liability Associate Attorney with 2-5 years of civil litigation experience, primarily in insurance defense. The successful candidate will handle file review, legal analysis, extensive research, drafting of legal documents, representation of clients in court, depositions, arbitrations, and trials. They will work closely with experienced attorneys and staff members, requiring superior analytical, problem-solving, and client communication skills.

 

Job Duties:

  • Conduct file review and legal analysis of claims and causes of action.
  • Perform extensive legal research and draft substantial briefs, memos, pleadings, and appellate briefs.
  • Maintain an annual billable amount of 1950 hours.
  • Represent clients in court, arbitrations, and depositions.
  • Draft and respond to discovery requests.
  • Retain and collaborate with expert witnesses.
  • Prepare for trials and attend as necessary.
  • Participate in negotiations and mediations.
  • Assist other team members as needed.
  • Handle civil cases from beginning to end.

 

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-approved law school.
  • Admitted to practice in the state of Mississippi; admission in other states is a plus.
  • 2-5 years of civil litigation experience, with an emphasis on insurance defense.
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong research abilities and written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent client interaction and telephone manner.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in handling depositions, including 30(b)(6) and expert witness depositions.
  • Proficiency in drafting and arguing substantive motions.
  • Familiarity with attending hearings and trials.
