Job Overview

A law firm seeks a mid-level associate attorney with 3-5 years of relevant experience to join its Payments and Fintech group in Washington, D.C. or New York. This role offers the opportunity to advise on legal issues at the intersection of technology, finance, and regulatory policy, representing clients from startups to major financial institutions.

Duties

  • Negotiate and draft complex commercial agreements, including payment processing and technology service arrangements.
  • Advise clients on U.S. federal and state regulatory regimes impacting payments.
  • Counsel clients on structuring innovative payments models and supporting high-risk industries.
  • Support responses to law enforcement investigations and regulatory examinations.
  • Conduct regulatory diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and investments in fintech and payments sectors.
  • Advise on legal implications of launching novel fintech products and services.
  • Contribute to thought leadership and business development initiatives.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to a state bar in good standing (NY or DC preferred).
  • 3-5 years of experience at a law firm focusing on fintech, payments, or financial services.
  • Knowledge of key payments regulations and commercial frameworks.
  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams.
  • Experience advising on regulatory due diligence and high-risk payments preferred.
  • Proactive, collaborative, and detail-oriented approach with excellent communication and analytical abilities.

Education

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admission to a state bar in good standing (NY or DC preferred).
