Job Title: Patent Attorney

Job Overview: A law firm in Minneapolis, MN, seeks a skilled Patent Attorney to join their team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for drafting and prosecuting patent applications, conducting prior art searches, and analyzing freedom to operate. They will collaborate with inventors to assess patentability, maintain knowledge of AI technology and patent laws, and liaise with clients to develop and manage portfolios.

Job Details:

  • Drafting and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Collaborate with inventors to understand new AI technologies and assess their patentability.
  • Conducting and analyzing the results of prior art searches and freedom-to-operate analyses.
  • Maintaining knowledge of the latest AI technology and patent laws.
  • Assist internal and external stakeholders in matters relating to AI/ML patents.
  • Liaise with clients to develop and manage patent portfolios.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or graduate degree (MS/PhD) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, Physics, or a related technical field involving AI/ML.
  • Experience with AI models, neural networks, and deep learning.
  • Experience with AI/ML theory, including backpropagation, regularization, and optimization.
  • Proficient in preprocessing data, selecting features, training/tuning models, and deploying models to production environments.
  • Domain experience in autonomous vehicles, robotics, natural language processing, wireless communications, computer vision, or related AI fields is preferred.
  • Registered to practice with the USPTO.
  • Active member and in good standing of MN Bar or eligible to waive into the appropriate Bar.

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • Registered to practice with the USPTO.
  • Active membership in MN Bar or eligibility to waive into the appropriate Bar.

  • Strong understanding of AI/ML technology and patent laws.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines efficiently.
