A law firm in Madison is seeking a Consumer Finance Special Counsel. The candidate will primarily focus on regulatory counseling and drafting related to federal and state consumer lending laws, with additional emphasis on licensing requirements and compliance management systems. This role requires extensive experience in consumer finance, including advising both bank and non-bank financial institutions, negotiating contracts, and interpreting regulatory frameworks.

 

Duties:

  • Provide regulatory counseling and drafting services primarily concerning federal and state consumer lending laws.
  • Advise on compliance with various acts including the Truth in Lending Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and Equal Credit Opportunity Act.
  • Draft contracts and lending documents for consumer and commercial purposes.
  • Interpret licensing requirements and ensure compliance for financial institutions.
  • Stay informed about regulatory changes and provide timely guidance to clients.
  • Conduct thorough research on consumer finance laws and regulations.

 

Requirements:

  • JD from an ABA-approved law school.
  • Active member of the Bar in good standing.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant regulatory experience.
  • Strong background in consumer finance, particularly in compliance counseling.
  • Proficiency in negotiating and drafting contracts.
  • Familiarity with state and federal regulatory interpretation.
  • Preferred experience with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

 

Education and Certifications:

  • JD from an ABA-approved law school.
  • Active Bar membership in the jurisdiction.

  • Comprehensive understanding of federal and state consumer lending laws.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
