Job Overview: A law firm specializing in municipal law seeks a knowledgeable and experienced Municipal Attorney to join their team. The ideal candidate will provide legal counsel on various municipal matters, including resolutions, ordinances, contracts, and regulatory compliance. This role requires proficiency in legal research, drafting, and advising municipal clients on various legal issues.

Job Duties:

  • Prepare resolutions and ordinances and attend public meetings for municipal clients.
  • Assist in negotiating and preparing contracts, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Research and prepare formal and informal memoranda on municipal topics such as the Open Public Records Act, the Open Public Meetings Act, the Local Public Contracts Law, and the Property Maintenance Code.
  • Render oral and written legal advice to municipal clients daily.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by senior attorneys or firm partners.

Requirements:

  • Admitted to practice law in the state of New Jersey is required.
  • Admission to practice law in New York is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of legal experience as an attorney, preferably with significant exposure to municipal law.
  • Strong ability to multitask, prioritize workload, and prepare legal documents efficiently.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • High attention to detail and proficiency in proofreading legal documents.
  • Proficiency in computer programs essential for legal research and document preparation, including Lexis, Westlaw, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and presentation skills with a commitment to high professional standards.
  • Demonstrates discretion in handling sensitive company and client information.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active member in good standing of the New Jersey State Bar Association.
