Job Overview: A law firm is seeking a highly skilled Construction Law Associate Attorney with 3-5 years of experience in handling construction contract claims, both public and private. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in arbitration and trial preparation, along with comprehensive knowledge of mechanic’s lien law, stop notices, bid protests, public contract law, prompt payment law, and payment and performance bonds. The candidate should also possess expertise in construction claims for contract extras, delay damages, impact damages, and assessment of liquidated damages, along with familiarity with alternate project delivery methods.

Duties:

  • Handle construction contract claims, public and private, with a focus on arbitration and trial preparation.
  • Manage mechanic’s lien law, stop notices, bid protests, public contract law, prompt payment law, and payment and performance bonds.
  • Work on construction claims for contract extras, delay damages, impact damages, and assessment of liquidated damages.
  • Conduct depositions of both percipient witnesses and expert witnesses.
  • Prepare and execute discovery plans.
  • Draft motions, depositions, and letters related to construction litigation issues.
  • Interface with clients professionally, conveying competence in legal and strategic practical matters.
  • Take ownership of cases and develop appropriate courses of action.
  • Demonstrate self-starting initiative and excellent follow-through skills.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience handling construction contract claims.
  • Experience with arbitration and exposure to trial preparation.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanic’s lien law, stop notices, bid protests, public contract law, prompt payment law, and payment and performance bonds.
  • Familiarity with alternate project delivery methods.
  • Deposition experience with both percipient and expert witnesses.
  • Law and motion experience involving substantive law and discovery issues.
  • Excellent writing skills for motions, depositions, and correspondence.
  • Ability to manage written discovery and conduct depositions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interface with clients professionally.
  • Proven ability to take ownership of cases and develop strategies.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the California State Bar.
  • Additional certifications or coursework in construction law are preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of construction law principles.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in legal research and analysis.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
