A law firm seeks a diligent Associate Attorney licensed in South Carolina, based remotely in South Carolina or North Carolina, with occasional travel to the Rock Hill, SC area. In this role, you will support clients, such as banks, finance companies, and fleet operators, by managing high-volume matters involving secured interests in motor vehicles and other assets. You will work autonomously while collaborating with a nationwide team, leveraging technology to resolve disputes efficiently and uphold professional standards.

Duties

  • Oversee a caseload of lien and asset-related disputes, ensuring timely resolution for clients with security interests

  • Initiate and conduct negotiations with repair facilities, tow companies, government entities, insurance adjusters, and opposing counsel to settle impound lien issues and property damage claims

  • When informal resolution is not feasible, engage in alternative dispute resolution (e.g., arbitration) or file and prosecute lawsuits, managing all phases of litigation

  • Analyze new assignments promptly, assessing legal and factual angles to determine optimal pathways for client outcomes

  • Maintain continuous communication with stakeholders—insurance representatives, body shops, tow yards, and clients—via phone and written correspondence

  • Execute settlements within delegated authority, obtain necessary releases, and confirm client satisfaction with resolutions

  • Record and track all activities, including contacts, investigations, negotiations, and document gathering, using firm case-management software

  • Comply with applicable professional conduct rules and ensure accurate, ethical representation in all matters

Requirements

  • Active license to practice law in South Carolina (North Carolina license considered if candidate resides in NC)

  • Ability to work independently, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail and time management

  • Facility with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams, internet research, and willingness to learn proprietary case-management platforms

  • Strong negotiation skills to resolve lien disputes and insurance claims effectively

  • Proven aptitude for litigation, including drafting pleadings, managing discovery, and representing clients in court or arbitration settings

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities to interact with diverse parties and document case progress

  • Capacity to handle a fast-paced workflow with tight deadlines, adapting to changing priorities

  • Commitment to professionalism, confidentiality, and adherence to ethical standards

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications

  • Licensed to practice law in South Carolina (or North Carolina, with willingness to obtain SC admission)

  • Adherence to South Carolina Rules of Professional Conduct

Skills

  • Exceptional legal research and analytical capabilities

  • Effective negotiation and dispute-resolution techniques

  • Proficiency in all aspects of civil litigation: pleadings, discovery, motion practice, and trial preparation

  • Strong organizational aptitude for managing multiple files concurrently

  • High level of initiative and self-motivation, with the ability to work remotely and collaborate virtually

  • Client-focused mindset with an emphasis on clear, timely updates and responsive service

Benefits

  • Health insurance (medical, dental, vision)

  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA) options

  • Life insurance and disability coverage

  • Employee discount programs

  • 401(k) plan with immediate participation and employer match

  • Bonus and commission-eligible compensation structure
